Latest Fishing Report from Crocodile Bay
October is usually our rainiest month, but this year, our anglers lucked out with beautiful weather. Most of the rain hit in the afternoons, and the seas stayed calm, letting our captains easily move between inshore and offshore spots—all in one day. It’s something special about Crocodile Bay: there aren’t many places where you can chase billfish, tuna, wahoo, and mahi-mahi offshore, then finish your day reeling in roosterfish, cubera snapper, and African snapper closer to shore.
Dorado season generally starts in late September, but this year’s action was a bit delayed. They finally showed up toward the end of October, letting anglers land plenty of dorado. And once back on shore, our two restaurants gave guests an amazing dining experience with their fresh catch. With some of the best chefs in Costa Rica, we make sure every meal is memorable.
The Osa Peninsula has become Costa Rica’s yellowfin tuna capital, and it’s now normal for our guests to come across schools of yellowfin. It’s an incredible opportunity to hook that dream tuna using different techniques—everything from live bait and circle hooks to trolling lures, top-water poppers, and even vertical jigging. Yellowfin are built for speed and strength, offering up an epic fight. If you’ve never caught one, Crocodile Bay is where to experience that heart-pounding thrill.
October also brought our 5th Annual Botanika Owners Tournament, a highlight for everyone here. It’s not just about fishing; it’s about building bonds with our Botanika family and creating lasting memories. This year, we saw plenty of blue marlin, sailfish, and yellowfin tuna. Tunas earned higher points at the weigh station, adding to the fun and competition. Closing night was a blast, with live music, drinks, and fish stories shared by all. This event gets better every year, and if you’re looking to organize a corporate or private event, Crocodile Bay makes it easy—we take care of everything, from your arrival at Botanika to each day’s details, so you can enjoy an incredible experience with your group.
As November began, we were still reeling in dorado bites and some hefty blue marlin, weighing in between 200 and 350 lbs. November is a great month for fishing as we transition from Costa Rica’s green season into summer, and it brings perfect conditions. So pack your rain jacket and sunscreen, and get ready for some incredible days in paradise.
