Crocodile Bay Fishing Report for November 2023
Watch our November highlights video below
Greetings from the stunning Osa Peninsula, home to Crocodile Bay and Botánika Resort! The fishing really delivered last month. November flew by and we are already in the holiday spirit here at Crocodile Bay. Join us for a fishing adventure in December to find out!
While October usually steals the show for dorado, November treated us to double-digit catches almost every day. Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) are swift and can snap up your bait in a flash. And, of course, they’re not just great for the thrill of the catch, but also for a delicious dinner – a win-win for anglers!
December typically welcomes the arrival of the first sailfish in good numbers, but we were pleasantly surprised to see lots of Pacific Sails in November already. These fast swimmers add an adrenaline rush to the fishing experience, almost like a dance when you hook them. Our guests get a treat when sails coming into our spread and swallow our ballyhoos like candy. We feed them for a few seconds, then lock your drag and the dance is on. Exciting stuff!
The standout moment in November was the marlin action. Our November guests had the thrill of landing blue marlin, black marlin, and a few striped marlin – a bit of a rarity in these parts. The way these marlins put on a show is truly incredible. I invite you to catch one with us.
We predict that December is going to be an epic billfish month, as we are already seeing high numbers of sailfish and marlin in November. Last year in December 2022 we experienced a huge amount of marlin action, with double digit marlin days on a regular basis. And this December we expect no different, as we can already tell by the great action this past month in November. December also has the advantage of getting even better weather and calmer seas. We can’t wait to have you come down and experience your marlin rocket out of the water and tail walk while doing flips and aerial high jumps. It is an experience of a lifetime! Take advantage of our December Specials.
November signals the shift from the rainy to the dry season in Costa Rica, and it’s always a prime time for fishing. Let me share some highlights from this past month– fishing conditions were really great… offering plenty of chances for anglers to bend rods both inshore and offshore.
Most of the fish we land at Crocodile Bay are catch and release. We’re big on responsible fishing, so we use circle hooks. They help us catch fish in a way that ensures they stay healthy when released. Costa Rica has a fishing regulation where anglers have to use circle hooks on any type of bait, dead or alive.
If you’re not familiar with using circle hooks, our English-speaking crews are always ready to assist.
In November, we had the pleasure of hosting corporate guests from the US Lumber and Trex Decking company. They had a fantastic time reeling in dorado, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, blue marlin, and even roosterfish. To cap off their trip, they experienced a night of Costa Rican-style rodeo – a unique and memorable touch.
With calm weather and fantastic fishing, now is the perfect time to grab your fishing gear and lucky hat and get down to Costa Rica. Come and discover why Crocodile Bay is celebrated for its world-class fishing.
Happy angling!
