Crocodile Bay Fishing Report for May, 2024
Watch our May fishing highlights video below.
May at Crocodile Bay means tuna mayhem! With schools of tuna cruising the waters of the Osa Peninsula, our anglers have experienced a tuna tug-of-war almost every day. This transition month from the dry season to the green season brings fantastic fishing opportunities. The changing water temperatures and rain wash off debris, creating feeding frenzies, and it’s magical to see huge schools of tuna working the bait balls.
The average size of yellowfin tuna ranges from 20 to 150 lbs, and in May, our anglers have hooked and landed massive tuna, bringing back enough to feed the whole resort. Our chefs offer various delicious ways to prepare your catch, ensuring your daytime catch becomes a culinary delight at dinner. Our guests, the Andrews family was at the resort for a family fishing vacation and they managed to catch and release four good sized yellowfin as well as bring some filets back to the restaurant for a fantastic meal. There’s nothing better than boat-to-table fare.
Our captains reported that May’s weather was perfect for fishing, with comfortable temperatures, minimal wind, and rains usually coming in later in the afternoon (after we’re back from fishing). The seas have been fairly calm, allowing for comfortable offshore and inshore fishing for our guests. Guests Grant and Steve Mindrum were fishing Crocodile Bay in May and were treated to some amazing Roosterfish action inshore, with the highlight being a 50+ lb pez gallo. What an exciting fishing adventure they had!
By the second & third week of May, blue marlin started to appear, feeding off the tuna, leading to some great hook-ups. Based on May’s performance, we predict that June will offer continuous billfish angling excitement for our guests. The highlight from offshore this month came from guests Red and Jim Oss who landed 24 tunas ranging between 20 and 80lbs and in 2 days of fishing. Great work guys!
