Costa Rica Fishing Report – Crocodile Bay Resort, Costa Rica

The last couple of weeks have been hot and cold but generally everyone caught what they came for, but maybe not in the numbers they wanted.

Boston Whaler Group
Boston Whaler Incentive Trip To Crocodile Bay Resort, Costa Rica! Thanks for coming down guys! Hope to see you back again soon!

The unseasonal rain scattered the sailfish but also brought marlin for an early arrival. David Butcher brought down a group of tournament fishermen that travel all over the globe. This year they fished here.

Blue Marlin

Mike Thomas held the lead for most of the 4 day event but Terry Detrich bagged a marlin on the last day to take the top prize. This was a 20 lb test line tournament and Detrich’s first marlin on such light tackles. Congratulations Terry.

Congratulations also go to Brett and Tamara Vana who honeymooned here as well as Rick and Bonnie Alvarez who celebrated their 20th anniversary with us.
Boston Whaler has been visiting us with a large group annually for over a decade. I’d like to personally thank Dennis Tilton who makes the logistics for the event very easy for me. The have a fun tournament every year with half the prize money going to the angler and have to a community project. Every year the winning anglers end of also donating their have of the winnings. This year they raised over $3000 and it will go to buying books for the new library at the elementary school.

Will Rogers on of Whalers managers have captured some incredible video over the years and the attached video is an extraordinary example of it. It shows a marlin coming in to the teaser repeated before taking the bait. I like to call it “Before the Bite.” Note…after the Marlin footage there is some nice sailfish footage above the water..these are separate clips.

Diego Toiran, host of Pescando en Los Cayos filmed an inshore for the Hispanic audience in the United States. Not only did he capture roosterfish on film but visited town to catch the local culture with cameraman Jose Acosta.
