Jim is the author of several international publications and has discovered more than 30 species of insects and 2 new mammals and co-authored the most complex wildlife field guide in Costa Rica: the Animals of Costa Rica app. He has appeared and contributed to several international documentaries. Jim is also currently President of Lands for Biological Diversity, a US-based 501(c)3 NGO that aims to acquire, protect, restore and conserve natural areas containing endangered and threatened flora and fauna on the last tropical forest in the Pacific of Central America.

Jim’s right-hand man Eddier Blanco is BioSur’s Excecutive Director, completes their efforts with focusing on environmental education of the younger generations. Eddier is a social anthropologist and professor of history and geography and graduated from the University of Costa Rica. His great affinity for the environment and his understanding that climate change is a large threat to humanity, brought him to be the current executive director and project coordinator of the BioSur Foundation. As an environmental educator, the strategy that he implements impacts children and adolescents through the development of environmental education programs on various topics that ensure their training as future generations.
