Crocodile Bay Resort Costa Rica Fishing Report – Mid April 2018 by Fishing Director Allan Smith – Greetings from the tropics, Last week we had the pleasure of hosting the JBL Communications Tournament put on by Brook Lunsford.
Brook is a super nice guy and one of our long time guests. Joining Brook was a group of friends, clients and associates for a two day Costa Rica Fishing tournament. It is always a bonus when you can mix business with pleasure. The tournament consisted of five teams on separate boats with anglers of all experience levels participating. There were marlin, sailfish, tuna and dorado all caught, but Brook’s team took top honors, releasing ten sailfish on the second day and clinching the win.

Also visiting us, was Darren Cruickshank from the UK, who was on a family trip with his son and daughter, to do some roosterfish fishing. It is not always easy fishing with kids and sometimes they have other ideas about what they want to do. After a couple of hours of slow fishing on the first day, the kids decided that they would rather be in the swimming pool and put on a successful mutiny. Poor Darren and the captain were made to return to the pier and fortunately no one was “keel hauled” or forced to “walk the plank”. After about twelve hours of swimming, Darren was able to get the Kids back on the boat and this time they managed to find some “kid friendly” roosterfish.
April in Costa Rica is a transition month. We begin to move out of the dry season and start to see a little more cloud cover with cooler temperatures . Mornings are generally sunny with more clouds in the afternoon. Being on the boat is very pleasant and It can be a great time of the year for both sailfish and marlin.
The roosterfish fishing the beginning of April was a little tough, but the last few days the bite has really improved. This should continue as we move further into the month, and cooler temperatures prevail.
I would like to thank the Fish Mavericks for coming and filming with us last week. They were good guys and a lot of fun. If you have never seen the show, it is pretty funny and is definitely a fishing show you can watch with non fisherman and everybody will be entertained.
